Euro Incident
The Fallout. That is where it all started. That is where the story begins. Some where in our past, diplomacy failed. The nuclear arsenals of the world were deployed. We lost record of time and of history then, when the world burned. Astonishingly, out of the ashes of the 3rd World War, out of the ashes of a nuclear fallout, rose the 4th World War, a second Dark Age. Warlords ruled the earth, and wars were fought over habitable lands. Over the clean lands. Humanity is strong, and from that second Dark Age rose a unified earth. As the world was ravaged by massive hurricanes and storms, we rose from our home world into the void. There the first space colonies were built. These colonies were pitiful creations compared to the awesome constructions of the present, yet it was the first step.
Then, it happened. A research team at the Los Angeles crater discovered Contz. A hardy ceramic created from the massive pressure and heat of the nuclear blast. A ceramic never before seen because of its unnatural origin. That is all we needed. For centuries we had held the knowledge to duplicate the power of the sun, the power of fusion, but never before had we known a substance that could contain its heat. Now we had it. Dr. Adam Contz, the researcher in charge of the team was also the first to successfully sustain fusion. From there, another technological renaissance arose. That is where the colonization began. The moon was first, it was not long before huge facilities were covering the moon's surface. It was not long before the Moon Terra-forming Project was declared a success. Corporal Steven Drake was the first man to walk on the moon without any form of life supporting gear. Though thin and in need of constant upkeep, the atmosphere created around the lunar surface was a triumph of human technology. Not long after that did several large corporations launch the mission to Mars. Soon the entire inner ring was buzzing with human activity.
Then came the mapping. Daring mining corporations successfully mapped and traversed the asteroid belt. Through their highway humanity burst forth. Almost two centuries later, here we stand. Colossal stations have been built from steel and rock, massive colonies orbit the sun like floating cities. Massive armada's of the Earth Sphere Federation guard the merchant vessels on interplanetary trade routes. Humanity is unified, yet utterly divided.
From their seat on Earth, the Federal Senate rules the solar system. When the storms had cleared, Earth had emerged clean, it seems, nature knows what it's doing. Thus Earth was reclaimed as the jewel of the System. The primary source of fresh foods and air, Earth rose as the center of the human race, as many argued it should be. However, almost three generations of people have been born and raised across the solar system without once setting eyes on the home world. Many find it disturbing paying taxes to a home world they have never seen, or being governed by officials from a likewise source. Miners who spend their lives drilling ore from the chaos that is our asteroid belt see little of the benefit provided by the Federal government, yet abide by their rules they still must.
And behind the tension, lurks a shady force, one who thinks the colonies were better off without the return of Earth. Terrorism had died out during the fallout, yet now it returned. A blind panic after a string of terrorist attacks as well as the sudden declaration of indapendance of Euro 3 and Zi'Etha, lead the Federation to declare martial law, and thus sparked the riot in the commercial colony of Euro 3.
Euro 3. It is the battle cry for warriors on both sides of this civil war. It once was simply a name. Now it's the idea. The riots became violent in the colony, and the Federal peace keeping fleet was fired upon by a massive rabble of armed merchant vessels that had been threatening war. As per protocol the Federal forces returned fire, and soon a riot became a head on naval engagement around the civilian colony. But this isn't what transformed tension into civil war. In the heat of battle a massive explosion rocked the colony. Ship of both sides were caught in the blast. Almost a million innocent lives vanished in the blink of an eye.
The Federal forces of the outer ring were crippled, thousands of people dead, and neither the newly formed Confederate Colonies, nor the Federation willing to take the blame for the destruction of a civilian colony, the stage is set for the greatest conflict humanity has yet known.
